Pick The New Princess Kay of the Milky Way

It's getting close to one of my favorite events of the year, the Minnesota State Fair. I have attended the fair every year and have been exhibiting dairy cattle there since I was six years old. I have many treasured memories with both my family and friends. My family and I will be exhibiting again this year and we are preparing our string of animals and are ready to educate fairgoers about the dairy industry, so stop by to visit us during the open class dairy exhibition time - August 31-September 3, 2009 in the Dairy Cattle Barn. Just look for the Jerseys!

Another reason why this fair will always hold a special place in my heart is the crowning of the new Princess Kay of the Milky Way takes place the night before the fair begins. Princess Kay is Minnesota's Dairy Ambassador and spokesperson for the dairy producers. I was in awe of this position from a little kid on and remember telling my parents about wanting to be a butterhead one day...as Princess Kay and all the finalists get their head carved in a 90 pound block of butter during the fair. And I was blessed that my dreams came true and was able to be a butterhead and Princess Kay. It was a year I will always treasure as I felt like I was on the front lines of dairy industry educating and promoting our great product and all that we do to care for our animals and land.

One thing that I have done ever since I can remember is reviewing the list of finalists for Princess Kay and picking the winner. And this year is no different. I thought it might be fun to share it this information and see if anyone wanted to share with me who they thought would be the next Princess Kay!

Here is a link to more information about the 2009 Princess Kay Finalists. If you want to participate in picking the winner, post your winner in a comment or email me at goldenhillcows@gmail.com and I will let you know who is correct! And as the event gets closer, I'll post my pick.

A few other interesting links to check out are the list of Past Princess Kay's and information about the Butterheads.

  1. Hi Kari,
Very interesting to read about your Princess Kay days and your book series. Have you heard about the new book "True Cow Tales: Literary Sketches and Stories by Farmers, Ranchers, and Dairy Princesses"? A couple of Princess Kays, as well as other dairy princesses, have stories in the book. I think you would enjoy it!
    Best regards,
