Minnesota State Fair or Bust!

This is my motto for the next few days and I am completed pumped up! I love the Minnesota State Fair, the cows (yes, cows 1st), the people (family, friends and fair-goers alike), the butterheads (Princess Kay & Finalists too), and of course the food (Pronto pups, Deep Fried Cheese Curds, Flat Bread Tacos, and ICE CREAM Galore)!

So Joe, I and Sykora have to finish packing our gear after work today and then we are heading north about four and half hours to my parent's farm - Diamond S Farm in North Branch, MN! It'll be late when we get up there, so tomorrow I will start clipping cattle for the show! As a family we are bringing about 16 head of cattle and then our friend's Ryan & Cleitus Bass - Bass-Vall Farm of Reedsburg, Wis., are bringing up 2 more to tie in with us! We will have a mighty large string of animals to care for at the fair.

Besides clipping animals this weekend, we will lead the animals to make sure they will walk properly for the show and pack up all the gear and feed for our exhibit and animals. There will be many family and friends involved in the string and I hope to have time to report from about the fun things we do.

My family has been exhibiting at the Minnesota State Fair since I was 6 years old. I am not tell you my age now, but its been a few years. Exhibiting our cattle is a great way for us to market our Registered Jerseys as well as take the opportunity to educate fair-goers about how my family produces food for the world, along with caring for the animals and land!

If you are at the Minnesota State Fair - August 31-September 4 - look for Diamond S Farm/Skiba's Jerseys farm sign and a huge string of Jerseys with a couple of Holsteins mixed in for color (hehe). We always love to chat with people, so stop by and say hello!

Also, if you are in and around the Moo Booth area of the Dairy Cattle Barn, my parents tell me some of the Jersey photos are of the cows from their farm! Plus, the Moo Booth is a great way to learn all about dairy cows and much more!
