Bright Spot In The Dairy Industry - Youth

This past Saturday I spent the day with my daughter, Sykora, and my nieces and nephews at the Isanti County Fair in Cambridge, MN. It was a special day, 4-H & Open Dairy Show Day!

The morning started off at Diamond S Farm with the washing of all the Spring Calves for the the Little Britches class.

Sykora to Joe and I this year that she was gonna wash her calf all by herself...and she did as you can see from the photos above.

Next the calves were hauled to the fairgrounds in time to watch the 4-H Dairy Show where my niece Meghan and nephew Caleb showed a few Jerseys and did well in their classes and in showmanship.

A quick little touch up before the class...learning the ropes of fitting.

Then it was time for the favorite event of the fair...the Little Britches class...ya never know what's gonna happen with such enthusiastic dairy show persons all under the age of nine. I know we had a couple of tired kids and calves, with the latter ones laying down in the ring. But overall it was a fun-filled event for all.

Sykora is all smiles and is all ready to go into the ring with her March 7, 2009 Spring Calf named Fleur. If you would like to see more of Fleur, this sweet little calf will also be heading to the Minnesota State Fair Open Show!

The Dairy Industry has a bright future from the looks of this group of enthusiastic show persons. This is a photo of the grandkids of Dave & Kathy Skiba (my parents).
