Have You Hugged A Cow OR A Farmer?

With today being the last day of June Dairy Month I wanted to dedicate my blog to Dairy Producers and their cows! So have you hugged a cow or farmer recently! Happily I can say YES to both! When I was at my parents farm for Father's Day weekend I was able to hug my Dad and Mom, dairy producers, and while there I always have to hug or scratch a cow or twenty of them. Plus, I just hugged my heifers last night on my own pasture!

But in a seriousness, the time and dedication that goes into dairy production is great. A Dairy Producers job seems never to be done, it is 7 days a week with many long days. They must milk the cow 2-3 times a day, feed all the animals, produce the feed (like planting and harvesting hay, corn, etc) for the cows to eat, clean the barns and equipment, there is always on-going farm maintenance, and just so much more. All this is done with great care and pride just to produce a rich, wholesome, nutritious, safe and delicious product called MILK.

So if you haven't done it yet, Thank a Dairy Producer and a Cow...give 'em a HUG!

Here is one of my favorite poems that I closed many of my speeches with when I served as Princess Kay! Happy June Dairy Month! - Drink MILK, Eat YOGURT and Enjoy some CHEESE!

This poem's author is unknown and I did a little editing. :)

We walked in the lane together
The sky was covered with stars
We reached the gate in silence
As I lifted down the bars
She neither smiled nor thanked me
Because she knew not how
For I was only a Farmer's daughter
And she was a Jersey Cow.
